- Cleanse the hair regularly (at least twice a week) by using a shampoo. Daily shampoo is not needed. Don’t use soaps to wash the hair as they make the hair dry and susceptible to breakage. Shampoos are used only to cleanse the hair and make them manageable. Shampoo/soap nut power does not cause hair growth and hair loss.
- Don’t manipulate the hair too much with hair cosmetics.
- Don’t comb the hairs wet as it can cause hair shaft damage; avoid like curling, straightening and ironing.
- Oil acts as a conditioner to the hair and makes the hair look shiny and also easy to manage & avoids split ends, thus oiling the hairs is only for grooming ¬ for growing. Oiling the hair does not cause hair growth; there is no particular oil that is specifically prescribed for the hair. All the oils do the same job.
- Allow the hair to air dry in the sun or mild heat only; avoid too hot hair drier, because heat causes hair shaft damage.
- Use a wide toothed comb with blunt bristles as it avoids friction between the hair & the comb bristles.
- Don’t tie the hair very tight as it can cause tractional alopecia.
- Protect the hair from environmental assaults like dust, wind & pollution-they make the hair dry.
- Remember; all of us have a normal hair loss up to 50 hairs a day-this does not need treatment.
- Most hair loss is temporary hair loss-which can be fully treated. So do not worry.
- Does smoking cause hair loss?
Yes. Smoking can increase hair loss due to decreased blood flow to the hair roots.
- Does exercise help growth?

- Which food to avoid?
Foods like chocolate, pastries, red meat, bakery foods, Chinese food rich in aginomoto, soft drinks, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, may increase free Radical level in the body and effect hair growth & cause increased hair loss.

Foods rich in sprouts, green leafy vegetables, salads, fresh fruits, pulses and plenty of water all help in giving healthy & glowing hair.
INSTUCTIONS FOR MINOXIDIL APPLICATION
1 ml of minoxidil lotion is around 10-12 drops of the lotion. Put these drops over the top and front of the scalp, but not for the back of the scalp. Apply only to the skin of the scalp; do not apply to the length of the hair. After each drop the lotion has to be spread immediately gently into the surrounding area so that the solution does not run out and don’t wait till you put all the drops. 1 ml of the lotion each has to be applied both in the morning & at night. Apply minoxidil lotion after head bath in the morning after drying the hair. Minoxidil lotion (MINTOP, HAIR 4 U, COVERIT, MX-5) & oil should not be applied together. Applying the drug will be easier if the hairs are short so you may consider trimming the hairs, if it is acceptable to you.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SHAMPOOING THE HAIR
Apply adequate amount of shampoo onto the wet scalp and work out the lather. Leave the lather on scalp for 2-5 mins and then wash thoroughly with water. Shampoo the hair twice a week.

- MYTH: Hair grows faster when it’s trimmed more frequently.
FACT: Hair growth is not determined by frequent trimming
- MYTH: Oil helps in hair growth.
Yes. Daily aerobics may help to reduce hair loss. However muscle build exercise may increase hair loss.
FACT: Oil is just a conditioner. It has no role in hair growth.
- MYTH: Dandruff and change of water/place cause hair loss.
FACT: Dandruff, hard water/helmet/change of place do not cause hair loss. Helmet may cause itching due to heat, but not hair loss. Likewise, hard water may cause deposition of metals on hair, shaft and lead to breakage, but does not affect hair growth.
- MYTH: Shaving the head increase hair growth.
FACT: Shaving the head does not increase hair growth

FACT: Long hairs don’t fall more; cutting short your hair does not help to grow hairs. But short hairs help to apply drugs better.
